Heating system.


The house is heated using a dual heating system that consists of a solid fuel wood burning Hunter14 stove with back boiler and an oil heating system. The Hunter14 will alone heat the water in the tank and every radiator in the house. The house is zoned into two areas, upstairs and downstairs, with thermostats in each zone. The radiators are Purmo radiators all with an individual thermostatic control. When the stove is burning it will heat the water to the set temperature first. It then heats the ground floor to the set temperature on the downstairs thermostat. When this temperature is reached the system then sends the heat upstairs to warm the upstairs zone. The oil system is run on a timer and will not kick in if the set temperatures on the thermostats have been reached either through solar gain in the summer or heat from the stove. This dual system is very cost effective and the stove system is so efficient in that the house heating can be managed with very little oil usage. The westerly facing aspect of the house ensures that the main living area of the house catches the evening sun which adds to the cosy feeling and warmth of the home.
