George the Farmer to get children interested in farming

Cartoon characters have been a fixture on children’s television for decades. Who could forget He-Man, Transformers or My Little Pony? Today’s children, though, have grown up with Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Postman Pat – characters with easily identifiable occupations. There has been no major farming children’s character in recent years, something an Australian company aims to change.

Hello Friday has created an app for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch called George the Farmer. George is an Australian farmer, who works with his dog Jessie and wife Ruby, on day to day tasks which children learn about with the app. They can hear the tractor rumble, Jessie bark and magpies caw. There are games to play, songs to sing and lots to do. The story is narrated by Australian radio presenter Peter Goers and is suitable for ages 0-8.
