Award winning bolus aims to revolutionise cattle health

Posted 16/09/2014

A revolutionary new bolus aims to change the way farmers monitor illnesses in dairy cattle. The Bella Ag Bolus, developed by US-based Bella Ag Systems, which is distributed in the UK by the Wynnstay Group has already received accolades for its ability to spot signs of illnesses developing in animals. Wynnstay received the Royal Welsh Award of Merit at the recent Royal Welsh Show for the product.

Huw McConochie, from the firm, said: "The response from farmers at the show has shown that the dairy industry is very receptive to new technology which has significant potential benefits for safeguarding animal health."

Vets have praised the bolus, commending its ability to quickly identify signs of illness in cattle. A Welsh vet - Rob Davies from Whitland based Allen & Partners Veterinary Services - said it would it potentially prevent fewer deaths: "Identifying illness quickly ensures the cows better-respond to treatment, meaning less treatment is often required and there are fewer deaths due to infection and toxaemic conditions."
