Following the resignation of Miguel Arias Canete, who has been chosen to the PP’s list of candidates for the forthcoming European elections, president Marianno Rajoy has named Isabel Garcia Tejerina as the new Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Enviroment until the end of the current legislature. Until today Sra Garcia Tejerina was Sr Arias Canete’s secound in command, and is a 47 year old agronomic engineer who has previously worked in the Ministry under Loyola de Palacio and Jesus Posada as well as Miguel Arias. She was appointed head of agriculture in 2000, but left four years later to in the private sector before returning to the Ministry in 2012.
