Can trees improve cattle's wellbeing?

Posted 18/09/2014

Trees might not only help beautify farms but also increase their productivity, according to a recent seminar held by the Woodland Trust and Harper Adams University on September 11th.

Planting trees can create additional income for the farm through helping to supply firewood, fruit and handicrafts made from the farm's wood. They make excellent shelter for livestock and enable the growth of grass to help feed animals. Certain medicinal trees could also improve the animals health.

The Woodland Trust's Creation Director, John Tucker, was enthusiastic about the event: "John Tucker, the Woodland Trust’s Woodland Creation Director, said: “What this event demonstrated is that trees and shelter belts do not take land out of production – they actually enhance its value and add functionality. It was fantastic to meet so many people interested to hear about the intrinsic value of trees on farmland, and I hope this event inspires them to integrate trees within their own businesses.”
