Livestock breeding has now been brought into the twenty first century thanks to the launch of fertility management software from Cogent Breeding. Precision Reproductive Solutions can be used with Pinpoint, the firm’s heat detection system, to accurately record information on the status of every cow in a herd.
Different colours can be assigned, depending on the status of the animal. Blue, for instance, could be used for cows that are currently pregnant. Black could be associated with those animals which are no longer available for breeding.
Targets are easy to implement and information can be quickly and easily accessed by professionals such as vets.
Precision development manager Michael Halliwell said the new system can save farmers time by sending fertility alerts to their mobile phone.
