Livestock Theft up by 140%

Posted 06/05/2014

In the past, the theft of Livestock is considered to be primarily a border phenomenon. Current stats show numbers south of the border and countryside are rising. The total annual cost to the industry is estimated at € 0.75 Million.

There is currently no fund in place to compensate farmers for resulting financial loss which in some instances can be in the region of €30,000 to €40,000. Livestock is part and parcel of farmer’s plans and business thus the impact of a theft event can cause serious harm and potential cash flow difficulties.

FBD has introduced this protection after customer feedback, industry assessments and with the assistance of the IFA (Irish Farmers Association) to protect Irish Farmers.
