Farmers set to benefit from the Dutch market

Posted 06/10/2014

The Netherlands could be the next major market for the UK's beef farmers after a recent visit from journalists covering its fine dining sector. The group were impressed by the quality of meat on offer and this could lead to a significant amount of interest generated for farmers.

Over 32,800 tonnes of fresh and frozen beef were exported to the country in 2013 alone, and this figure is set to go up significantly after EBLEX revealed that over £56m worth of exports were shipped to the Netherlands in the first half of this year.

EBLEX's marketing executive, Jonathan Eckley, said: "The Netherlands is a significant export market for UK beef and we have built a strong presence in the Dutch market over the years. [...] This has provided the perfect platform on which to highlight the quality of our product for the high end food service sector as we move forwards, looking to increase shipments of high quality beef cuts to this important market."
