Posted 30/07/2014

Livestock was a big hit at this year’s Ryedale Show, with over 1,000 livestock entries vying for prizes such as dairy champion, pedigree beef champion and champion pig. Around 15,000 visitors were estimated to have visited the popular one day show on Tuesday.

Entrants came not just from Yorkshire, but from across England, and even from as far as Scotland. Dairy champion was won by Kevin Midgeley and his Holstein Friesian heifer, Enchanted Topshot Honey. The Rice family from Leeds picked up the commercial beef champion prize with their British blue heifer, Disco Daisy. Hillhead Fiona, a British Blonde, won the pedigree beef champion category.

There were prizes on offer for junior handlers, with 13 year old Alicia Lack bringing home first prize in the young handlers beef shorthorn class. Other attractions included local food and crafts and stalls from an eclectic range of businesses.
