Wales' EID is intending on a zero tolerance - could this be more fines for farmers??

According to the NFU Cymru, the Welsh government’s proposals for “no error” on the Welsh EID are unfair. The new proposal is set to come into force on the 1st January 2015.

Responding to the government’s EID Cymru consultation, Lyndon Edwards, NFU Cymru’s livestock board chairman, said it was impossible for the system to operate without some errors occurring. He said farmers should not have to live with fair of cross compliance fines, relying on technology to work correctly 100% of the time.

The Welsh government also wants the reporting of sheep movement to be submitted within 24 hours. The EU regulatory requirement that makes individual recording and reporting compulsory remains deeply unpopular with farmers, Mr Edwards added. “We continue to use every available opportunity to push for a fundamental review of the current EID regulation.
