Strong demand for Irish lambs

Posted 27/05/2014

Prices paid this week range from €6/kg up to €6.20/kg for supply groups. Factory agents are now anxious about supply numbers and actively approaching some group chairmen to secure lambs throughout the week. Demand is being driven by wholesalers in the domestic market and by a strong export trade.

There are still some hogget’s in circulation, but in very low numbers. Quality is variable, making it difficult to negotiate on price. Hogget’s are selling in general at €5.50/kg to €5.60/kg this week for better quality lots. Poor quality lots are being discounted. Ewes are holding firm at £2.60/kg this week.
