EBLEX Quality Standard Mark celebrating 10 years

Posted 04/09/2014

EBLEX's Quality Standard Mark assurance scheme for British beef and lamb is celebrating its tenth birthday this year. Launched in 2004, the scheme has grown to include over 2,100 retailers, farmers and other suppliers.

Like many other farm assurance schemes in the UK, the Quality Standard Mark has grown in popularity as consumers demand to know more about where their food comes from. According to a recent meat and poultry survey commissioned by YouGov, a third of adults would buy meat with the QSM logo on the packaging.

EBLEX's marketing manager for the Quality Standard Mark, Laura Bishop, said: "Consumers are more aware than ever about food safety and traceability and are increasingly looking for assurance and origin indicators on packaging and menus. The good news for retailers and caterers is that the QSM scheme for beef and lamb has remained robust since its launch ten years ago and is better placed than ever to enhance consumer confidence. It does this by providing guarantees of provenance, quality and consistency.”
