Malton livestock market to get new home

Posted 26/08/2014

Malton's historic livestock market is poised to get a brand new home after the local council decided to give the green light for a redevelopment project that could create around 800 new jobs for the area. It is hoped that the new site will attract a greater number of both farmers and buyers to the area, significantly boosting the local economy.

The brand new market will sit near the junction of the A169 road to Pickering and the A64 Scarborough to Leeds road. The 18 hectare site will also include sites for farm machinery retailers, a business park for agricultural companies and a satellite campus of Bishop Burton College.

Derek Watson, from auctioneers and livestock market company Cundalls, said it was vital Malton retained its market to help grow even further: "We want a chance to build on its current success. A new market will enhance not only Malton but the whole of Ryedale because it will attract more farmers and buyers."
